A
former slave plantation, the Roaring River Estate near Petersfield
in Westmoreland is named for the gushing waters of the river. Its
history is rooted in the sugar industry of the colonial era, beginning
in the late 17th century. It was owned by the Beckfords of Gloucestershire,
one of the first English families to settle in Jamaica after the
island was won from the Spanish.
This

Departing
from Montego Bay where you are picked up at your hotel approximately
10:00 am, your journey to the north coast of Jamaica, we’ll
take you through the town of Montego Bay passing an old British
Fort namely Fort Charles which is located at the former entrance
to the once village now town of Montego Bay. 
You
are transported from your hotel by our professional tour-driver
who will show you the places of interest as you travel the north
coast along the sea coast area. As you go through the many country
villages on your way to Nine Mile, birth place of our reggae king
Bob Marley.

JAMAICA ZIPLINE ADVENTURE
All
tours start with an awesome "6x6 guided off-road safari tour".
This is not just a quite ride in the park, you better hang on tight
as we travel through the mountainous rainforest and our lush plantation
located at the Great River Adventure Center. The vehicles we have
are called 6x6 Pinzgauers, they go over and through anything.
Our
tour is the longest combined lengths of ziplines in the Caribbean
and our last zipline known as “Big Timba” is the longest
single zip in the Caribbean 1,600 feet. We warm up and build your
confidence on zip #1 which is 250’ long, low to the ground,
and is a very gentle ride. Then we step it up as we go getting longer,
higher and faster. The rides are exhilarating not scary it’s
like flying gracefully and under control above and through the tree
canopy. We pride ourselves on how safe our ziplines are and how
safety orientated the guides are. When zipping you are attached
to 2 Steel Cables each can handle 23,000 lbs. (Length of the ziplines
- 250’, 750’, 850’, 900’, 1,600’)
Enhancing this canopy tour is a 250’ Jungle Walking Bridge
- Indiana Jones style but much stronger. All guests are attached
to a safety cable while traveling across on the bridge.
Halfway
through the tour experience another true Jamaican experience. The
Flavors of Jamaica - You are given the opportunity to sample a variety
of fresh fruits we have grown at our plantation. All Just picked
for you. (Coconut water, Sugar Cane, Pineapple, and what ever else
is in season at the time)

GREAT RIVER TUBING ADVENTURE
Just
a short distance from Montego Bay your adventure begins with a drive
through the rainforest mountains. Approximately 30 minutes from
Montego Bay you arrive at the quaint village of Lethe and the Great
River Valley. Upon the arrival at the adventure starting point you
are met by your professional guides and attend a briefing outlining
your adventure, safety guidelines and are outfitted with safety
gear. It is now time for some fun. Boarding your professional quality
tubes small groups set out on this expansive river with a small
ratio of guests to guide maximizing the pleasure of your experience.
The
river is abundant with lush vegetation, tropical flowers and birds.
While you are drifting down the river relax and enjoy while your
guide points out the various species of the natural wonders you
will experience. While drifting down the gentle cascades the guides
have an abundance of interesting observations and history for your
enjoyment.
Between the cascades are lovely fresh water pools where you can enjoy a refreshing swim if you wish. After the last cascade your adventure is about to end leaving you with wonderful memories of a very special part of Jamaica most tourists never get to experience. This truly is a great tour for the entire group or family.

GREAT RIVER KAYAK SAFARI
For
the more adventurous your journey through the mountains is a short
30 minutes from Montego Bay. After driving down the mountain you
will arrive at the Great River and the quaint village of Lethe.
Continuing back up the mountain along the other side of the river
with panoramic views of this huge mountain valley that are breathtaking.
The spring fed river source is over 20 miles upstream in the next
mountain range.
On disembarkation you will be met by your guides and attend a safety briefing and outfitted with safety gear. Your guide will then escort you down a beautiful landscaped garden and through the Bamboo lined forest leading to the starting point. Here you will be issued your 2 man inflatable kayak. Instruction will be given to those who have little or no experience and on completion your adventure begins.
These
inflatable kayaks are very buoyant and extremely stable allowing
for maximum enjoyment. Along the river you will whisk through numerous
gentle cascades to add to your enjoyment. The professional and experienced
guide accompanying you will point out the abundant species of vegetation,
tropical flowers and bird life. Passing through the village you
will go under the historic cut stone bridge built by slaves almost
two centuries ago.
The fun continues with more cascades and still fresh water pools. Stop if you wish and go for a refreshing swim. Arriving at the disembarkation point you will know that you just experienced a journey with lasting memories to take home with you.

HORSEBACK COUNTRY COOKOUT WITH RIVER COMBO
Don’t just want to get on a tired old nag and do the tourist thing, guess what? This is the tour that you are looking for. Action, adventure, wilderness, culture and fun all rolled up into one great tour. Just 30 minutes outside of Montego Bay your adventure begins. In the rainforest river valley you mount your horse and begin your journey up the mountain. Some of the paths are old roads that have not been in use for 200 years. Cross bridges over streams and into the rainforest. This is totally away from the beaten path. At the journeys end you come across a clearing with thatch roof huts and a real Jamaican country cookout. You will be treated to some of the best local country cuisine that Jamaica has to offer.
Don’t worry about what to sample, sample it all cooked on the open fire. Roast Breadfruit, yam and salt fish, Ackee, pepper pot soup or whatever native delights that we can find to treat your taste buds, we have it all. Naturally items are subject to availability and seasons.

For over a quarter of a century visitors to Jamaica have been treated to the unique experience of bamboo river rafting.
